When You Need Onsite Support

Some Issues Just Can’t Be Solved Remotely

Remote support handles 80%+ of tickets, but the remaining 20% requires hands-on attention. Without local engineers, those tickets stretch into days.

Hardware failures need physical access

Failed servers, dead workstations, broken switches — these don’t reboot themselves. Remote sessions can’t replace cables.

Office moves and buildouts

New office, expanded space, or major reconfiguration? Onsite engineering for cabling, networking, and physical setup.

Major outages need someone in the building

When everything’s down, a remote ticket queue isn’t enough. Onsite presence for diagnosis and rapid recovery.

Hardware deployments

New laptops, monitors, conference room AV, printers — onsite installation and configuration when you need it done right the first time.

Cabling and structured wiring

Drops, patches, racks, terminations — physical infrastructure work that absolutely cannot be done remotely.

Executive support and meetings

Sometimes leadership needs a real person in the conference room when something fails. Onsite presence builds trust during crises.

Why Datastrive

One Hire vs. an Entire Bench.

Hiring a single in-house IT person costs roughly the same as a full Datastrive managed support agreement — but a single person can’t cover 24/7, can’t be a senior network engineer and a cybersecurity specialist and a vCIO at the same time, and goes on vacation. Managed IT support gives you depth, redundancy, and predictable cost without the recruiting risk.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about onsite IT support and how Datastrive handles physical engineering work across Chicagoland.

How quickly can you come onsite?
During business hours: 1-2 hours for managed IT clients in our standard service area, longer for further suburbs. After-hours: 4-8 hours depending on severity. Same-day or next-day for ad-hoc clients depending on engineer availability.
What’s your onsite service area?
Chicago plus Cook, DuPage, Lake, Kane, and Will counties — Naperville, Schaumburg, Aurora, Oak Brook, Rosemont, Skokie, Downers Grove, Elk Grove Village, and surrounding suburbs. See our service areas page.
Do you charge separately for onsite visits?
Onsite is included in managed IT support agreements within the standard service area. Outside that area or for one-off non-managed clients, it’s billed hourly with travel time disclosed upfront — never as a surprise.
Can we get onsite support without managed IT?
Yes — onsite is available standalone, hourly. But for any business needing onsite more than once a quarter, managed IT (which bundles onsite) is almost always cheaper.
Do you handle after-hours and weekends?
Yes — for managed IT clients with extended/24/7 coverage, after-hours onsite is included for emergencies. For others, after-hours onsite is available with prior arrangement and premium rates.
What about office moves?
Office moves are scoped as fixed-fee projects through our IT project management service. Onsite engineering is part of the move team, with planning and cabling included.
